Creating Purpose and Living A Fulfilling Life With Doctor Jordan Grumet
A Special Bonus Newsletter Issue
I invite you to listen to a special episode of the Heavy Metal Money Podcast, The Extreme Personal Finance Show!
I had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Jordan Grumet, or who we sometimes call Doc G, author of the new book The Purpose Code. In it, Doc G shifts our focus from chasing massive, often overwhelming goals to finding the everyday actions and personal passions that spark genuine joy and build lasting fulfillment.
In our discussion, we dive into how generational trauma, money scripts, and negative patterns can obscure our sense of purpose—and more importantly, how we can break free of those negative patterns. He also shares strategies like life reviews and experimenting with new activities to discover your unique path.
My Own Purpose and Path
When I left my 9-5 in February of last year, I thought my purpose was to build my nonprofit and make a bigger impact. I wanted to continue to educate and help people with personal finance and inspire them to live life on purpose. I wanted to bring joy to myself and others through music by sharing and playing guitar in musical projects.
It has been challenging. I had always been wrapped up in what Doc G calls “Big P” purpose. These giant and often overwhelming goals. In order to reach success I needed these huge, honestly, unreachable goals. That made me discouraged and frustrated.
I thought I needed to raise thousands and thousands of dollars, get awarded these gigantic grants or help dozens of families with the nonprofit. Or, I needed thousands or tens of thousands of followers and subscribers for Heavy Metal Money to mean something. If I’m going to create music, I had to get the best gear and record the best tracks and I lost track of just finding joy in the act of doing the thing. Just play guitar for the joy of playing guitar.
Thanks to reading The Purpose Code, Doc G helped me discover what he calls purpose anchors. From these anchors, I was able start to build a path to create my purpose. I feel over time, I’ll be able to experience fulfillment in playing music, helping those that need help with the nonprofit work, as well as writing and sharing personal finance content with those that are interested and looking for guidance.
